Today, February 15, we commemorate a new Serbian National Day (Дан државности Србије) as a memory of that "First Serbian Uprising" at the Orašac assembly in 1804, leading to the beginning of the Serbian Revolution against five centuries of Ottoman occupation. Also, on this date the "Day of the Constitution of Serbia" is remembered in memory of the day it was promulgated in Kragujevac in 1835.

For the members of the Orthodox Church of the Serbian Patriarchate, today (February 2 in the Julian calendar and February 15 in the Gregorian) is a holy day. "Сретење Господње" (The Meeting of the Lord) is the moment in which we remember the moment when the Virgin Mary presents Jesus in the Temple of Jerusalem 40 days after his birth.
